Anne Martin

In her era, Anne Martin was too small to be an elite international rower, or so it seemed. She competed at the World Championships from 1984-87 in lightweight events, winning bronze medals in single sculls in 1984-85, and a gold medal in the four in 1986. She stepped up in weight and made the 1988 Olympic team, rowing for the US in the quad sculls.

Martin was a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Smith College and later earned an MBA from Stanford. Her business career started with Alex Brown & Sons, where she was involved in corporate finance and merger and acquisitions in information technology. She then moved to private equity firm Rosewood Venture Capital in San Francisco, focusing on the internet, software, and business service investments. Martin then became a director of the Yale Investments Office, where she focused on natural resources and private equity. In 2010 Martin was named chief investment officer at Wesleyan University. She was also founder and chair of the Board of Governors for the Robert Packard Center for ALS Research at Johns Hopkins, and has served as a co-chair of the National Rowing Foundation. Martin is married to John Pescatore, who rowed for the US at the 1988 and 1992 Olympics.
