Gardner Cadwalader

Gardner Cadwalader attended the University of Pennsylvania, graduating in 1971, where he stroked the varsity eight as a junior and senior. Cadwalader won a gold medal at the 1967 Pan American Games with the coxed pairs. After Penn Cadwalader studied at St. John’s College at Cambridge, England, and rowed in The Boat Race against Oxford. Known as “The Big Yank,” he helped lead Cambridge to victory over Oxford in 1972. After Cambridge, Cadwalader returned to Penn and received his masters’ degree in architecture. He worked for 20 years as an architect with Francis Cauffman Wilkinson & Pepper, and the later became a stockbroker with Dean Witter in Philadelphia.
