Sherry Cassuto studied at State University of New York, graduating in 1977 with a degree in biology. She later rowed for the Lake Washington Rowing Club. Cassuto was an alternate on the 1984 Olympic team, and then competed at the 1985 and 1987 World Championships. At the 1985 Worlds Cassuto won a silver in the coxless pairs, while in 1987 she raced the single sculls, placing sixth. She won a gold medal in single sculls at the 1989 Maccabiah Games.
Cassuto is noted on several websites as an LGBT athlete who came out and competed in the Olympics. She later became a certified rolfer with a private practice in Seattle. She continued to race in masters rowing events, and also in outrigger canoe, kayak, and surf ski events.
