The 6-3 (1.90) Erich Federschmidt began rowing in 1916 with the Penn Barge Club. World War I intervened and he did not row at all for the next three years, serving in the medical corps in the army He began rowing again in 1920, qualifying for the Olympic team. After the Olympics he jumped to the Undine Barge Club, but retired shortly thereafter.
