The smaller yet older of the two brothers, Franz Federschmidt started out rowing with his brother for Penn Barge in 1916. He began again after the war and joined his brother, Erich, at the Undine Barge Club. Franz Federschmidt worked as an engineer. He died after a long struggle with colon cancer.
