Glenn Florio was mostly a lightweight sculler but made the 1988 US Olympic team in heavyweight double sculls. Florio won a World Championship bronze medal in singles sculls in 1986 and placed seventh in the same event at the 1987 Worlds. He was US Champion in lightweight singles in 1986 and 1987. Florio was on the US national team from 1984-88 and was captain of the New York AC rowing team from 1984-90.
Florio attended Fordham University, winning gold in single sculls at the Intercollegiate Rowing Association (IRS) Championships and graduating in 1989. He later worked in New York as a financial analyst, but later in his life, he returned to his sporting roots and became the women’s rowing coach at the United States Coast Guard Academy, spending four years in that position before his untimely death.
