Paul Gunderson was a native of Washington state, attending Enumclaw High School. He later attended Harvard, graduating in 1965. Gunderson was given the 1965 William J. Bingham Award by the Harvard Varsity Club, which is given to a male member of the senior class for integrity, courage, leadership and ability in athletics.
