As a 36-year-old, Ed Hedley was one of the older members of the Vesper BC eight at the Paris Olympics. Hedley had been rowing a long time by then, having won the Canadian single sculls title in 1892. He also won the single sculls championship of the Schuylkill Navy five times between 1891 and 1899. Hedley won several U.S. national championships, including the 1902 coxless pairs.
