Pat Manning, Jr. rowed in college at Northeastern University. He rowed for the United States from 1989-94, competing at the 1992 Barcelona Olympics, and four World Championships. In addition to his Olympic silver medal in the four, Manning also won a silver medal in that event at the 1991 Worlds. He rowed the four at the 1990 Worlds, but was in the eight in 1989 and the pair in 1994.
Manning earned an MBA from Harvard Business School, and later went into the financial world, working first with Salomon Brothers in investment banking, then Harvard Management Company, and a technology start-up Sunguard Capital Markets. He eventually became a partner at Bain & Company, a well-known venture capitalist firm in Boston.
