Scott Munn rowed in college at the University of Washington, and also competed for the Marin Rowing Association, although he postponed his senior year at Washington to train for the Olympic team. He first competed internationally in the eight at the 1988 World Junior Championships, winning a bronze medal. In addition to his Olympic appearance, Munn rowed at four World Championships, in the coxed four in 1990, 1993, and 1995, and the eight in 1991, winning a gold medal in 1995 in the four.
Munn studied architecture in college. A Colorado native, he later started his own architectural firm in Vail, Colorado, eventually settling north of Denver in 2007 with Munn Architecture.
