Gregory Springer rowed in college for U Cal Irvine, graduating in 1983with a physics degree. He competed at the 1984 and 1992 Olympic Games, and was an alternate for the 1988 team, but did not compete. Springer won a silver medal in the coxed fours at the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics. He was a gold medalist in that event at the 1983 Pan American games, and won a silver medal in single sculls at the 1986 Goodwill Games. Springer later became a rancher in south Texas.
