Biography

John Stillings rowed for the University of Washington, helping the Huskies win the Grand Challenge Cup at the Henley Royal Regatta. Stillings was a coxswain who had a long career with the US national team. He competed at the 1980 and 1985 World Championships, and won a gold medal with the eight at the 1983 Pan American Games. Stillings again coxed the US eight at the 2003 Pan American Games.

Stillings became an artist, working mostly in acrylics. He settled in the Pacific Northwest and often painted landscapes of the area. Stillings also worked in photography which he used to help him capture the beauty of nature and assist him with his paintings.
