John Van Blom was a sculler who competed at the 1968, 1972, and 1976 Olympics. Van Blom was European Champion in double sculls in 1969, with Tom McKibbon, and placed third in doubles at the 1970 World Championships. He attended Long Beach State University, graduating in 1970. Van Blom married Joan Lind, who rowed for the United States at the 1976 and 1984 Olympics. They continued to compete in masters competition into the 21st century. John Van Blom became director of the Long Beach Rowing Association. He was inducted into the Long Beach State Hall of Fame in 1982.
