John Wade sat in the stern of the US coxless pair at the 1948 London Olympics. Wade rowed for Yale University, graduating in 1949. He then joined the US Air Force and served as a pilot in the Korean War, flying over 100 combat missions.
Wade joined Mallinckrodt Chemical Company after leaving the Air Force, but in 1968 joined the Mississippi Research and Development Center in Jackson, Mississippi. While there he earned a PhD in business management at Mississippi State University and then taught as a professor in the business school at Jackson State University. Wade also worked as a business consultant until his retirement in 2009.
