Warren “Wes” Westlund attended the University of Washington. He rowed the stroke-oar for their 1948 Olympic four, which won every race easily at the Olympic Trials and the Olympics. Westlund was known for being the practical joker on the crew.
Westlund later started his own automobile dealership, Warren Westlund Buick-GMC. He was on the university’s Board of Rowing Stewards, and was elected to the University of Washington Athletic Hall of Fame in 1981. Westlund was also inducted into the National Rowing Hall of Fame. Westlund was a past chairman of the Seattle Automobile Show, a past president of the King County and Washington State Automobile Dealers’ Associations, and a trustee of the state Auto Dealers Insurance Trust. He was named Time magazine’s Quality Dealer of the Year in Washington.
