Bertram Mills “Bert” Williams was a private with Nova Scotia’s 69th Annapolis Regiment when he was selected to represent Canada at the 1908 Summer Olympics. There, alongside Charles Crowe, William Eastcott, Harry Kerr, Dugald McInnes, and William Smith, he won a bronze medal in the military rifle team event held at the Bisley Rifle Range. His 414 individual points placed him third amongst his six teammates.
A native of Bridgetown, Nova Scotia, Williams was an active member of the local Bridgetown Rifle Association, and also an avid fisherman. He later spent 25 years as a travelling salesman for the Colonial Hide Company in Windsor, Nova Scotia until he was forced to retire in 1933 after his health declined following a stroke. He died in 1934 in Pugwash, while overwintering with his wife at their daughter’s residence.
