Fares was the 1943 and 1950 Egyptian trap shooting champion and was runner-up in 1952, in addition to winning a national title in clay pigeon shooting in 1945. He was also one of two Egyptians, alongside the non-Olympian Ibrahim Yaken, to take part in the 1934 ISSF World Championships.
