Mary Anne Schweitzer learned to shoot rifles at a young age, following her older brothers. She started competing in national events when she was only 12. Schweitzer won international medals in Cuba and Mexico prior to her Olympic participation in 1984. She competed in the inaugural Olympic air rifle event for women, placing 18th. Schweitzer and her husband later became extensively involved with car racing and restoration, especially of Corvettes. She worked for many years for an electronics company in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.
