Pat Spurgin won the 1984 gold medal in women’s air rifle, the first time the event was held at the Olympics. At the time she was only 18-years-old and a student at Murray State University. Spurgin later spent over 20 years as an assistant coach for the University of Alaska at Fairbanks shooting team, helping them win nine titles. The Pat Spurgin Rifle Range in Murray, Kentucky is named in her honor.
