José Luis Ballester was a Spanish butterfly swimmer who competed at the 1988, 1992, and 1996 Olympic Games. He swam the 200 fly at each Games, and the 100 fly and medley relay in 1988. Ballester won three medals at the Mediterranean Games, with silvers in both butterflys in 1987 and a bronze that year in the medley relay.
Ballester attended the University of Florida in the United States, graduating with a degree in management in 2003. He married Sonia Barrio, a Spanish hockey player who also appeared at three Olympics, winning a gold medal in 1992 at Barcelona. Their son, José Luis Ballester Barrio, became a professional golfer after winning the 2024 US Amateur Golf Championship.
