West German swimmer Hertha Haase from Harburg was a member of the 4x100 freestyle relay team that finished fourth at the 1956 Melbourne Olympics when she and her team-mates Ingrid Künzel, Haase, Kati Jansen and Birgit Klomp lost out on the bronze medal by only 4/10 seconds. Haase never won a national championship. Nothing else is known about her life.
