Ferenc Siak defected to the United States after the 1956 Olympics, as did many Hungarian Olympians in response to the Soviet repression of the Hungarian October Revolution. He settled in Florida where he worked as a lifeguard and then joined the Water Follies, before a shoulder injury forced him to quit. He Americanized his name to Frank Siak and met his future wife, Barbara, who was a beautician, and together they opened a series of Frank and Barbie’s Beauty Salons in Central Florida.
