Biography

In the late 1960s and early 1970s Tord Andersson was one of the best competitive divers in Sweden. Andersson, who represented Malmö SS, had his first major international success at the 1966 European Championships with silver in the 3 metre springboard. The following year he won bronze in the same event at the Summer Universiade in Tokyo. These performances earned him a place on the Olympic team for the 1968 Mexico City Games. Andersson competed in the springboard and platform events in Mexico, finishing 7th and 11th, respectively. For his performances he was awarded with the Skåne Swimming Association’s gold medal on three occasions (1965, 1966, 1968). Andersson was also a good swimmer and, outside of the pool, he built his own windsurfing boards.
