From New Jersey, Patience Sherman swam for the New Jersey Swim Association and later attended Elmira College. She swam the heats of the 4x100 free relay at the 1964 Olympics. She briefly dated Don Schollander after meeting him in Tokyo. Sherman later had a few masters swimming results, but without any major victories. She married Gerald Boyer and they settled in northern New Jersey and at the Hamptons on Long Island.
