Carol Smith, from Cairo, Illinois, was the first US woman to win the Olympic platform title. This was a bit of an upset as she never won a US title and was usually beaten by her 1924 Olympic teammates, Betty Becker and Helen Meany. She later married and became Carol Macias, but little is known of her life.
