Allison Wagner was an individual medley swimmer who swam both IM events at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics, winning silver in the 400 IM. In 1993 Wagner won golds in the 400 IM and silvers in 200 IM at the short-course World Championships and the Pan Pacific Championships. At the 1994 World Championships she was a silver medalist in both IM events. In 1994 she was named by Swimming World magazine as American Swimmer of the Year.
Wagner swam in college at the University of Florida. She won seven Southeastern Conference (SEC) titles and the 1995 NCAA title in the 400 yard IM. Wagner was named SEC Swimmer of the Year in 1995 and 1996. In all, she received 11 All-American honors. Although she retired from competition in 2000, she attempted a short-lived comeback in 2006-07.
Wagner studied Buddhist philosophy and later traveled around the world solo for eight months. She became an artist and a founding member of Art of the Olympians.
