Bill Dickey was a member of the New York AC when he won his Olympic gold with a plunge of 62-6 (19.05). He competed in swimming with his brother, Percy, who died rather young. Dickey married Kathryn Pinckney Dickinson in late 1900 at which time he was working as the manager of a boiler works. In 1910 they lived in Manhattan, with Dickey working as an occupation engineer. By the time of his registration for World War I they had moved to Seneca, New York, working as a sales manager for a pump works. He served during the war as an assistant engineer for the US Navy. He and his wife moved near Clearwater, Florida in their later years. For his military service Bill Dickey was buried at Arlington National Cemetary.

The death date belongs to one William Pinckney Dickey from Boston, who was born on 17 September 1878 in Brookhaven, Mississippi and worked most of his life as a school teacher in Boston. The birth date cannot be confirmed by any sources. Also contemporary newspapers list him as W. E. Dickey or Billy Dickey.
