Craig Lincoln won his first national championship in 1970 when he took the AAU outdoor 3-metre title. The following year he won the AAU indoor off the 1-metre board and took the silver medal in the springboard at the Pan American Games. In 1972, his last year as a psychology student at the University of Minnesota, Lincoln finally won an NCAA title when he took the 3 m championship.
