Miki McFadden

Miki McFadden started playing volleyball as an outside hitter at Punahou School in Hawai’i, where even as a high school student, she was Hawai’i Athlete of the Year in 1965. She later played for Southern Cal, graduating in 1970, and the Long Beach Shamrocks. McFadden played for the US team at the 1966 Universiade, winning a silver medal. She also competed at the 1971 Pan American Games. She then left the national team, earning a masters degree, but she continued to play a lot of volleyball, both indoors and beach, and would compete into the 1980s in masters events and the Senior Olympics.

McFadden became a phy ed teacher and volleyball coach, starting in Los Angeles from 1969-76, and later back at Punahou School from 1983-85. Returning to LA, she was at El Segundo High School from 1985-95, and then taught and coached at Ventura Community College from 1995-2005, before her initial retirement. In 2007 she returned to coaching at Sisters High School in Oregon, where she settled with her partner, Peggy Lukens.
