Marilyn McReavy attended Howard Junior College and then graduated from Southwest Texas State University in 1966. She played for the US national team in 1967-75, winning a gold medal at the 1967 Pan American Games, and competing at the 1968 Olympic and 1971 Pan American Games. She became a renowned volleyball coach, coaching at several universities, including New Mexico State, Utah State, Kentucky, Florida and North Florida before becoming head coach at Saint Louis University in 1971. In 2002 McReavy-Nolen became the third NCAA Division I coach to win 800 games.
McReavy-Nolen helped develop the first US Olympic national training center in Texas, before it moved to Colorado Springs. She was inducted into the Women’s Sports Foundation Hall of Fame in 1978 and in 1996 was honored by USA Volleyball with the All-Time Great Coaches Award. In 1999 she was given the Founders Award by the American Volleyball Coaches Association.
