Biography

Ibrahim Abo Kalila had his biggest international weightlifting success at the 1979 Mediterranean Games, when he took silver in the middle-heavyweight division behind France’s Yvon Coussin. He also represented Egypt in that event at the 1984 Los Angeles Games, but did not record a mark in the clean and jerk portion. He had more success domestically, winning multiple national championship titles, and later entered administrative roles, rising to the rank of Vice President of the Egyptian Weightlifting Federation under Kamal Mahgoub. By career, he worked in the government and was the Director General of Combating Customs Evasion in Air and Sea Ports.
