Lancastrian weightlifter Tom Taylor won the 1922 British Championship in the featherweight division. He set many British records, and in 1924 claimed a world record for the two-handed dead lift at the Stadium Club, London, with a lift of 435lb (197kg). Taylor went to Paris for the Olympics that year but finished in 17th place, and was last of the three British competitors after Alfred Baxter and Augustine Cummins.
