Fernando Arcega began his basketball career with CN Helios in 1979 before joining CB Zaragoza in 1982. Arcega spent 14 years with the club, winning the Spanish basketball championship in both 1984 and 1990. He also had a prolific career with the national team, earning more than 120 caps. In 1983 he won silver with the team at the EuroBasket tournament in France before being selected to represent Spain at the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics. At the Games the Spanish side won silver, with Arcega playing in four matches for the team. He returned to the Olympics four years later in Seoul, but Spain failed to replicate their previous performance, finishing down in eighth. In 1991 Arcega won another medal at the EuroBasket tournament, this time a bronze in Italy. His brother José was also a basketball player, with him competing at his home Olympics in 1992 in Barcelona.
