Biography

Kalle Viljamaa was a Finnish wrestler who represented his country at the 1912 Stockholm Olympics. In the Greco-Roman > 82.5 kg division, he was eliminated after losing to Germany’s Jakob Neser in round 5, finishing in a shared fifth place. He had three podiums at Finnish Championships placing 2nd in 1911, 1914, and 1916 in the unlimited heavyweight. In 1913, he was 4th at the unofficial European Championships.

Viljamaa was also successful in track & field, placing 3rd in the 1911 national championships in the hammer throw. His personal best in the hammer throw was 35.59m achieved in 1914. He was a member of the board of his club Tampereen Pyrintö from 1912-14. As a railway worker, he was a civilian casualty of the White Guard artillery shelling in the battle of Tampere during the Finnish Civil War.
