Biography

During the 1950s and 1960s Hans Antonsson won multiple national titles in Sweden in wrestling. Antonsson mainly competed as a middleweight, winning Swedish titles in both Greo-Roman wrestling (1958, 1962, 1964, 1967), and freestyle wrestling (1957, 1959–67). At the 1960 Roma Olympics he won bronze in the freestyle middleweight competition after his final bout with Giorgi Skhirt’ladze ended in a draw. Antonsson had accumulated fewer bad points during the tournament than the Soviet wrestler, which resulted with him finishing third. His nephew Bertil was also a successful wrestler who won two Olympic silver medals.
