Biography

Turkish wrestler Burhan Bozkurt participated in the Greco-Roman flyweight class at the 1964 Tokyo Olympics but was eliminated in his first-round bout by South Korean Sin Sang-Sik. Bozkurt won two bronze medals at World Championships in the 1950s, and in 1955 won his first Turkish Championship.

In 1961, Bozkurt moved to West Germany, affiliating with KV Untertürkheim, and then, from 1962, with SV Einigkeit Damm. He helped Damm win the West German team championship in 1963 and 1964. Bozkurt trained as an electric welder but was also a talented musician. He died in 2013 in a nursing home after a long illness.
