Jack Niflot dominated the 1904 bantamweight division and easily won the gold medal with three straight falls, throwing Gus Wester in 1:58 in the finals. Niflot was the favorite; he had won four consecutive AAU championships prior to 1904, and his Olympic title and the 1905 AAU featherweight championship gave him six straight national championships. Niflot later became a professional wrestler and when his sporting career ended, he remained in wrestling, coaching at Columbia, Princeton, and the New York Athletic Club and working as a wrestling referee.
