Biography

Björn Bothén took his exam as an engineer at the Higher Technical College in Bodenbach an der Elbe in Bohemia (now Děčín, CZE). After travelling through various Central and Western European countries he became owner and director of several companies in the electrical, automotive, oil and chemical industries, mostly in Göteborg.

In 1916 Björn Bothén married Ingrid Maria Svensson. Together they had four daughters. In 1911 he co-founded Göteborg’s Canoe Club. As a sailor he explored the Göteborg and Bohuslän archipelagos and published the Bohuskalendern in the 1950s. At the 1912 Olympic Games in Stockholm he was a member of the crew of the Marga placing fourth and last in both races of the 10-metre class. He also played tennis and competed in car racing. Bothén received the Carnegie Award, a fund for Swedish heroes.
