Bill Cooper was Owen Churchill’s nephew and began sailing aboard his yachts. He was a crew member aboard the Santa Maria in 1932. Cooper attended UCLA with John Biby and Richard Moore, graduating in 1933. An engineer, he later had a business career with Douglas Aircraft.
