Biography

Barton Jahncke was equally proficient as a helmsman or as crew, but at the 1968 Olympics he sailed as crew to the helmsman George “Bud” Friedrichs who, like Jahncke, was a graduate of Tulane. Jahncke had finished second in the 1964 Luders 16 international Championship Regatta.

After college graduation, Jahncke worked for the Lykes Bros. Steamship Co., was appointed as vice president in 1974, and spent his entire business career with that company. He was the nephew of former IOC Member Ernest Lee Jahncke (USA). Barton Jahncke was inducted into the Tulane University Athletic Hall of Fame in 1986.
