Barton Jahncke was equally proficient as a helmsman or as crew, but at the 1968 Olympics he sailed as crew to the helmsman George “Bud” Friedrichs who, like Jahncke, was a graduate of Tulane. After graduation, Jahncke worked for the Lykes Bros. Steamship Co. and was appointed as vice president in 1974. He was the nephew of former IOC Member Ernest Lee Jahncke (USA).
