Algis Ignatavicius played basketball for Australia at the 1956 Melbourne Olympics. He was known primarily as an outstanding shooter. Ignatavicius was born in Kaunas, Lithuania but after World War II he and his family were placed in the Displaced Persons Camp in Germany where they remained for four years before migrating to Australia in 1949. He was 17-years-old when the family relocated to Adelaide. Ignatavicius played on the South Australia state team from 1951-55, helping them win the Australian Championships in 1953.
