Canadian-born son of German parents, small forward Michael Jackel was on the German basketball squad that finished seventh at the 1992 Barcelona Olympics after winning the classification match versus Puerto Rico, 96-86. In total, he earned 169 international caps and was European Champion in 1993.
Domestically, Jackel played 17 years in the German Bundesliga and scored 10,783 points as their all-time leading scorer. He played with MTV Wolfenbüttel (until 1982), ASC 1846 Göttingen (1982-85), DTV Charlottenburg (1988-89), Galatasaray Köln (1989-90), TTL Bamberg (1990-96), and SG Braunschweig (1996-99). He earned four German Championships (1983-84, 1987-88), and four German Cups (1982, 1984-85, 1992).
Jackel later went back to Canada with his German wife and worked as a basketball coach and later with the Canadian police.
