Norbert Petschel, stepfather of Tanja Frank, was an Austrian sailor who participated at the 1984 Los Angeles and 1988 Seoul Summer Olympics. He competed in the multihull Tornado class and partnered Walter Schlagbauer in 1984, finishing 12th. In 1988, Petschel sailed with Christian Claus, and they finished an unfortunate fourth. Both won two medals at the European Tornado Championships, gold in 1987 and bronze in 1988. Petschel´s daughter Clara was also a competitive sailor.
