Douglas Winston was a sprinter who ran at the 1956 Melbourne Olympics. He started in sports playing cricket in high school and then turned to hockey (field). His father also taught him to sail as a youth, but he eventually started running and excelled. He continued to play other sports, however, and travelled with the Australian hockey team in Tasmania in 1952, 1954, and 1958. His career was as an electrician.
