Julien Van Campenhout

Julien Van Campenhout was a Belgian long-distance and cross-country runner who represented Daring Club de Bruxelles. In 1919 Van Campenhout won the Belgian championships in both the 5,000 metres and the cross-country race, with him doing the double in the 5,000 and 10,000 metres the following year. He won his fifth and final Belgian title in 1924 with another win in the cross-country race.

Earlier in his career in 1916 Van Campenhout had set a Belgian record in the 5,000 metres that stood until 1933. He also set national records in the 2,000 metres and the 10,000 metres, with the former record standing from 1917 until 1928. Van Campenhout ran in the 5,000 metres at the 1920 Antwerpen Olympics where he finished ninth. He also ran in the cross-country race in Antwerpen, finishing seventh individually, with the Belgian team coming home in sixth place. He was scheduled to run in the cross-country race at the 1924 Paris Olympics but did not start the event. Van Campenhout was only 35-years-old when he died in August 1933.
