Dan Majerle played college hoops at Central Michigan and was then a first-round draft choice of the Phoenix Suns. Majerle played for 14 years in the NBA, also playing with the Miami Heat, and briefly the Cleveland Cavaliers, but he is best known for his time with Phoenix, where he became one of their most popular players ever. Majerle was known both for his defensive prowess and his role as a sixth man coming off the bench. In his international career he won a bronze medal at the 1988 Olympics and a gold medal at the 1994 World Championships.
Majerle made the NBA All-Star Games three times, in 1992, 1993, and 1995, and was twice named second-team NBA All-Defensive team. He later was an assistant coach in the NBA with the Suns, and then in 2013 was named head coach of the Grand Canyon Antelopes, in their season in D-1 college basketball. He is a member of the Michigan Sports Hall of Fame and the Phoenix Suns Ring of Honor. His #9 was also retired by the Suns.
