Glenda Reiser was a teenage phenom in Canadian athletics. In high school she started as a swimmer but turned to running when she was 15 years old. Within two years she was Canadian champion at 800 and 1,500 metres and made the Canadian Olympic team in the longer event. She ran 4:06.71 in the heats at München to set a Canadian record, but was eliminated in the semi-finals. Reiser won three Canadian national championships at 1,500 metres and won the 1974 Commonwealth Games gold medal at the distance. She retired after the 1979 season and entered medicine, studying at the University of Ottawa. She became a family physician and later a psychotherapist for women. She was inducted into the Ottawa Sports Hall of Fame in 1988.
