Danish sprinter Axel Petersen was a five-time national champion in the 100 metres, winning four back-to-back titles from 1905 to 1908, and his fifth title in 1910. Petersen also won silver in the event in 1903 and bronze in 1911. At the 1908 London Olympics he ran in the 100 metres where he finished in second place in his heat, but did not advance to the semi-finals. His younger brother Aage competed in multiple track and field events at the 1906 Intercalated Games.
