Jérôme Romain

Jérôme Romain was a triple jumper who competed at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics where he made the final. Romain won bronze in the triple jump at the 1995 World Championships, and competed at four Worlds, from 1993-99. He also won a silver medal at the 1995 Pan American Games. He was second at the NCAA Championships in 1994 and 1995.

Romain attended college in the United States, first at Blinn Junior College and then eventually graduating from the University Arkansas in 1996. He later obtained a masters’ degree in kinesiology and exercise science from Arkansas in 2000.

Romain was born on Saint-Martin, a French overseas territory in the Caribbean, but initially represented Dominica. He adopted French nationality on 16 March 1999 but re-adopted Dominican nationality on 10 January 2008.

He later became a coach, starting as an assistant coach for jumps at the University of Wisconsin and then moving to Brown University and the University of Tennessee. He coached the Dominica athletics team at the 2008 Beijing Olympics and was the Dominica flagbearer at the Opening Ceremony in both 1996 and 2008.
