Dominica (DMA)

After a steering committee was formed in 1986, the Dominica National Olympic Committee was founded in 1987, and recognized by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) in September 1993, at the IOC session in Monte Carlo. The country made its Olympic début in 1996, when five track & field athletes and one swimmer competed at the Atlanta Olympics. Dominica has since competed at all Summer Olympic Games, represented by 17 athletes, in track & field athletics and swimming.

The best performance by a Dominican Olympian came in 1996, when Jerome Romain qualified for the final round of the triple jump. At Tokyo 2020, Thea LaFond also qualified for the final round of the triple jump, this time on the women’s side.

In 2014, Dominica first appeared at the Olympic Winter Games, with cross-country skier Gary di Silvestri, although there was controversy concerning his qualifying status. His wife was also supposed to compete in 2014 but was injured shortly before the Sochi Games.
